When you have seen one, you have seen them all! Well that sure as hell doesn’t apply to these big boys! Sure I have seen Redwoods before and they are gigantic and massive and unbelievable even when you see them. But there is something about seeing so many up close.
I drove through the winding roads of the Avenue of the Giants. I suggest this drive as it was wonderful to see all of the trees, drive through the forest and take hikes if you have the time. There is an info center (I use that term lightly) right off the highway that you can take a mini brochure and it will tell you different stops along the way to check out.
I also stayed at a campground in the Redwoods National Forest for a couple of nights. I did one of the walks though the redwood forest and it was stunning. Moss hanging from tree limbs, the sounds of birds calling to one another and silence……just me and the world around me. Until, a child screams off in the distance and brings me back to the real world lol
I hope that someday you are able to see these giants up close and personal, sometimes words and pictures just don’t do it justice.
As I was able to walk and drive though these amazing trees I got to thinking, which we all know can be dangerous.
Trees are incredibly vulnerable.
They don’t have a choice as to where they are, they are planted or seeds are dropped and they start to grow. They depend on the sun and rain to feed them so they can grow, and they also depend on us to allow them to do so. Of course trees fall due to high winds and rock slides, over flowing rivers, storms and so forth, but we on a daily basis cut them down for our own use.
I know, I know, we need trees for lumber to build houses, to have paper to write on which is becoming a lost art if I do say so myself, toilet paper, furniture….etc!! I get it, trust me. So many places cut down trees and don’t replant any, which is depleting our only resource. We can make houses out of other materials, we have to get creative which some companies are doing.
Anyway I digress, my point was that trees are defenseless; they need us to speak up for them and to protect them. Go ahead and call me a tree hugger, doesn’t bother me at all. The reason that we have redwoods to look at today is because someone discovered they were in danger of being turned into lumber and realized we can’t do that to all the trees, we won’t have anything left.
It is so important to protect things that don’t have a voice. Animals of all shapes, sizes and species, plants, trees, our earth as a whole! It is talking to us, telling us to make changes otherwise it will for us, and I do believe that it will happen. More storms that are more severe, more earthquakes and tsunamis that wipe thousands of people out. I know it sounds ruthless and horrible, but it is true. 2018 will turn out to be a year with more major snowstorms, major flooding, higher impact earthquakes and so forth. I am not just spitting all of this out of my own thoughts, there is science behind some of this. When I am actually able to connect to the internet I will post the links, if you care to read them.
