Today I start my day with driving through Monument Valley. There was so much hype around this place and the drive so I was really excited about it. Until I got there. Ok I know I sound like a downer BUT with all of the places I have been to this just isn’t one I would return to. You pay a fee (which is fine) to take your own car around to check these gigantic rock structures out. Don’t get me wrong, they are massive and unbelievable but you can’t really get to them. Everything is seen from the car or from a really long way away. I also figured the monuments would have been farther apart from one another, but to my surprise they were rather close together. The route you drive is 22 miles, and I think my favorite place was the point called Artist Point. It is this massive landscape, it has mesas and buttes and there is a huge desert landscape in front of them. There are some trees and bushes here and there which is amazing in this arid climate.
I also spent the night at Goulding's Campground....if you are staying there camp where the tents are in the lower area not near the RVs. It was a bit noisy but the bathrooms are good and it is priced pretty well ($28). They also have a walk that you can do (which I didn’t get to) that will bring you out to a hidden arch. There is also a campground heading towards Monument Valley, it is on the right hand side of the road, $20 to stay there and seems like a quiet area.
