Beach, Shells and The Countdown

It was supposed to rain yet again today, so I didn’t head out till around 10am.

There is a beach that everyone said I needed to check out called Waihi Beach, which is named after the town that it is in. So I headed over there and started at the far bottom in a small town called Bowenton. I apparently was there earlier than people so I had the whole place to myself for 30min or so before people started to show up with their boats to go fish. The sun started to come out which was a great surprise and the day started to warm up. The water was really shallow in this little bay which makes it good for kids (of any age) to swim in. I am sure as the tide went out more than it was there would have been a long way to walk to reach some other areas of the bay. I just kind of wandered around the beach looking for any kind of seashells. I have a bit of a bad habit of collecting sea shells but I love beach related things so any cool shells that I can find I grab. I probably spent a little over an hour here and then decided to head back up the coast to check out more of the Waihi Beach.

They have a whole bunch of car parks along this road where you can park, and then there is a 5 min walk through dunes to get to the beach. When you get to the top of the dunes the view is wonderful. For as far as the eye can see, just tons of beach from left to right and an island far out to see. It was still a bit misty out so on the far ends of the beaches it looked a bit cloudy. The beach here is great to walk on for the distance and the hard packed sand. I can imagine how packed it is in the prime holiday and summer times. Although, this beach is not really the best place to go for a swim. But it is great for surfing or boogie boarding, the waves are constant as they crash into the beach one after the other. Another great perk of this beach were the shells! I found a ton of shells that I can make into necklaces which I am really excited about, but I also found some intact scalloped clam shells and a beautiful (but unfortunately for it) dead sand dollar. I spent a good part of the rest of my day here and as the dark storm clouds started to roll in I made my way back to the car and back to my hotel.

I needed a nap so I did just that. It is great being able to do what you want when you want. I am not really looking forward to going home next week. Today marks my 1-week date till I go home. I am having some anxiety because I don’t want to go back to that reality. I have a few house and dog sitting gigs when I get home to rake in some money and pay off the last of my trip, which won’t be much thank goodness. But other than that, nothing! I still have no idea what I want to do with my life, I still feel very lost. Where do I want to live, what do I want do to for an income……blah! I have no issues staying at my mom’s house till I figure any of this out because we are best friends and we live very well together. Not to mention she upgraded the bathroom I use while I have been gone so that is great!

I know there is no rush to figure anything out and at some point things will fall into place, this is where my patience is really going to be tested. People at work used to tell me I was a saint because my patience was so good, I just chuckled at them and said thank you because I know I am not very patient. But I guess it is dependent on what I am needed that patience for. Anyhoo, enough being down about having to go home. I can’t wait to cuddle with my kitty and spend some time with my lovely little nephew!
