Today we just spent the day wandering around downtown Melbourne window shopping.
The streets are all decorated for the Christmas season and there are street performers everywhere. It is really odd being where it is so warm out for winter. Not complaining by any means lol because I love the warm weather, but it is wierd.
Some of the things I have noticed about this city is that traffic is oddly OK, definitely not like Boston traffic! I have done pretty damn good driving on the left side of the road for my first time. It was kind of hard the first day or so but now it kind of feels like second nature. The traffic patterns are a bit becuase they drive on the left side of the road, at some of the lights where you want to take a right, you have to be in the left hand lane and block traffic who are stopped in order to then make a right. Took us a few days to figure that one out, and we found that the reason is because the trams have to keep moving, which makes sense.
People also ONLY cross the street when they are supposed to. What novel idea that is! Rather than loud buzzers that are obnoxious, they have a clicking sound to alert people to cross.
I know a lot of this blog sounds informational but they are just observations of the city taht I have made while being here.
It is a fairly clean city for the most part, not a lot of litter which is extremely nice, and there are plenty of bins for people to dispose of their cigerete butts too, although that doesn't seem to work as well lol.
I really love this city, plenty of public transportation and places to eat and drink. There is a "center" called federation square that has all kinds of things in it. They do movies on some nights and put out chairs for people, they had a lego tree built and then did a lego day for the kids, and the whole square has free wifi. That is another thing that is great about the city is the fact that there is free wifi everywhere. this is a place that I could see myself living for sure....but no worrries to people at home...I won't move here :)
Till next time
XO
