Ahhh Venice, what a beautiful city!
We all know it is built on the water, but it is such an understatement. There really are no cars or streets, you either walk or take a boat. The canals are so narrow and very shallow, so the boats all have flat bottoms in order to be in the canal. They also have over 400 bridges within the city, so needless to say, we walked up and down tons of stairs! Some of the walkways were extremely narrow so much so that only a single person could go down them! All of the buildings are made of brick, some of them have plaster or other types of coverings over them but they are so beautiful.
All of their water comes from out of the city and can be consumed right from the pumps which is kind of cool, you don’t see that everywhere. We learned all of this on our walking tour. Our company tour guide came along on this tour with us. He asked me if I could help him get the rest of the “stragglers” to catch up with our group, who had fallen behind. Sure, why not...might as well! Once we had rounded everyone up he pulled me aside into an ally and kissed me!! He said, “No tour in Venice is complete without a kiss”! Needless to say he melted my heart and a made my day! Although this was not our first encounter, so it wasn’t totally off for either of us, but maybe not proper for a guide to be sweet on a customer....but I will take it any day, they don’t happen often! I really enjoyed my day in Venice and am sad to see it go but I am looking forward to our next stop in Munich Germany.
